“Life in Greece takes place outdoors” so said Pericles Giannopoulos.
This vacation house is located in the area of Mytari in the middle peninsula of Sithonia, Chalkidiki. Although designed and built as a vacation house, the original designer failed to shape the landscape so it can be used as a key element of the original design, as it should definitely be.
The owners wanted the open space to become able to host outdoor activities such as barbecues, sun bathing, relaxing and playing. The owners also wanted a new interior design, which was to include among others, a fire place.
Most of the weight of the design fell on the landscape and the open spaces. Thus, a barbecue corner, an open air dining corner and a wooden pergola were created on the south-western side, which is the side of the main entrance of the house. On the north-eastern side, with the slope providing a marvellous seaside view, the open space for relaxation was created combining sun and view.
These improvements even though seemingly minor, were in fact very important and have nevertheless transformed a conventional and impersonal vacation house, into a lively and enjoyable one.
